I use to be a happy person oh so long ago.
But then I served my country and off to war I was sent. Now I live in that place so hellish that it is. That terrible place that they sent me to, to try and stop that war.
So with unloaded rifle I had to walk that narrow path, between the fighting peoples, but no safety had that path. For both sides now decided to attack, so with only boots and fists, I tried to stop their attacks. To hell we went, because that is where we were sent. Kill or be killed was the way we went. But I was to stop that war, because that was where I was sent.
Now I walk alone with my memories and in torment I walk bent. Trying to make sense of it all, but I cannot as war has no sense. Alone I walk as many others do, but a lone we are each, so deep in hell is where we walk. It’s where the Angels fear to tread, just like that war to where we were sent. We use to be happy oh so long ago. But now we walk, crippled and bent from the heaviest in our souls.
My country then turns its back when I ask for any help. As cheap as they can is what they are when they have to pay any amount. All I ask is what they owe, it’s not too much I think, just enough to live my life with dignity is all I want, you see.
I use to be a happy person oh so long ago….. I wish that I could come home now because I sure don’t like it here in this place that I am….. because it’s hell were I was sent.

Once a Soldier…
Soldiers can be a tough lot…
They endure untold hardships
Heat, rain, mud, sleep deprivation
And that’s just the easy stuff!
They put it all behind them and soldier on
We endure
We must
For our family
For our friends
For our Country
Soldiers are a tough lot…
They endure untold hardships
The death of an ally, of a child, of a best friend
Pretty rough stuff
They try to put it all behind them and soldier on
We endure
We must
For our family
For our friends
For our Country
Soldiers can be caring too…
The small child with no shoes
The stray dog
The elderly woman
A quiet moment for tears…
Then soldier on
We endure
We must
For our family
For our friends
For our Country
Soldiers are hard on the outside
But like an egg that cracks,
The inside easily exposed.
Hurt… broken…
But they soldier on
We endure
We must
For our family
For our friends
For our Country
Soldiers become Veterans
When their job is done
Or when they can no longer carry on
They still care
They are still soldiers
Veterans endure
We must
For our family
For our friends
For our country
All too often
The task complete
The Soldier, the Veteran
Forgotten…
No longer needed
We endure
We must
For our family
For our friends
For our country
The Soldier, the Veteran
Gave their all
Some their lives
Some their minds
Some their health
We endure
We must
For our family
For our friends
For our country
Soldiers and Veterans
Can be a tough lot
But all too often the fight goes on
The guns now silent
But the quiet unbearable
We endure
We must
For our family
For our friends
For ourselves!
Why?
Where is our Country?
We answered the call when needed!
We gave up so much
Who will answer our call?
We endure
We must
For our family
For our friends
For ourselves

Stand Down
Stand down
Your job is done
You are home
Stand down brave soldier
No more fear
No more thunderous roar of guns
No more killing
Finally peace…
Stand down
Your task complete
You are home
Stand down brave soldier
Our debt eternal
Your bravery ultimate
Your honour supreme
Rest eternal…
Stand down
Your mission over
You are home
Stand down brave soldier
Angels welcome you
Your sacrifice absolute
Your death not in vain
Your memory undying
Stand Down…

Took me time to read all the comments, but I definitely enjoyed the write-up. It proved to be Incredibly helpful to me and I’m positive to all the commenters right here It’s always great when you can not only be informed, but also entertained I’m certain you had fun writing this post.
I must say, as very much as I enjoyed reading what you had to say, I couldnt help but lose interest after a while. Its as if you had a wonderful grasp around the topic matter, but you forgot to include your readers. Perhaps you should think about this from extra than 1 angle. Or maybe you shouldnt generalise so considerably. Its better if you think about what others may have to say instead of just going for a gut reaction to the subject. Think about adjusting your personal thought process and giving others who may read this the benefit of the doubt.
Great to become going to your blog once more, it has been months for me. Properly this write-up that i’ve been waited for so lengthy. I will need this post to total my assignment in the school, and it has exact same subject with your article. Thanks, terrific share.

Just found out that due to my DVA Medical Pension and CPP(LTD) Pension, they both disqualify me from any allowance on Permanant Impacable due to my earnings in 91. My question is how did being on the Economic Lost Program which took 27,000. from a Disbility Pension, 5100. from my waiting period for my CPP plan, and 5500. from a increase of my Disbility Pension and finaly a 3500. Revenue Canada bill for Taxes on a non taxable Pension?help me? Right know I’m being told that there is no more assistance with Veteran Affairs unless Legislation is changed. My question is that how is this helping veterans like myself and how can i be part of a program that i never paid into and cannot get assistance from(SISIP)? How does taking over 30,000. help a Veteran? To me they took my second chance at a Home and Life!! Any help with this would be appreciated!
Jim, have you discussed this with any of the members in the Canadian Veterans Advocacy group, such as Mike Blais? Also go to their message board. You can access it from the blog roll to the right. I am going to put that message board on a separate page to make it easier for everyone to access it. The group also can direct you to lawyers who have volunteered to represent vets in questionable situations. Wish I could give you more encouragement.
Blessings, Bonnie
